Now regarding the empty "c:\Autodesk" folder: Mental ray is now an extra installation option, but AFAIK it is checked by default, anycase - you would'nt have the other mental ray related files there if it wasn't checked. So if you don't have exactly the file "mentalray.dlz" without any other extension in your Plugins\NVIDIA folder, your mental ray installation is incomplete. The *.mui files are - as you expected - only the language related files of the plugins. I do not know how to tackle a repair, I don't see any option in the installation file setup.exe giving you the option for a repair.īy the way in this blog says that mentalray is now installed as a separate subcomponent. I had installed Maya 2016 and uninstalled it. This is the first time I've installed Max in this computer. The extracted installation folder, don't have inside anything about Max, it is just empty.

I've just pressed that button, the installation finished, and now I see I cannot see the mentalray render engine. I only had a big button, saying Install on this computer. But sometimes it would be fine to be able to work with MR too.When I've installed Max 2017 I did not have any box to tick the installation of the mentalray plugin. Is there any workaround or which version of Mental Ray I should use? Lucky me has also VRay and I will do my new projects with it. When I downloaded it from the NVIDIA Advanced Rendering it also says, that it is version 1.0.1. But when I register in the NVIDIA Professional Application Center it says, that it should be MR version 3.14 f or 3dsMAX2018. The installed Version "NVIDIA Mental Ray for 3dsMAX 2018" shows a version 1.0.1. But it seems, that MR has a very different code than the previous version.
